French trio Blind Delon have unveiled their ominous single “Le Crépuscule,” a song from the band’s highly anticipated third album, La Métamorphose, in collaboration with the Veyl label. Drawing inspiration from the cold bass lines and vintage synthesizers of French post-punk and dark romanticism, Blind Delon transcends genres and styles to forge a cutting-edge synthesis of synthpunk that pays tribute to its influences, while evolving into something entirely novel. The band’s current lineup features Mathis Kolkoz (vocals, guitars), Coco Thiburs (bass), and Thom Mayor (synths, guitars).

With lyrics exclusively in French, the haunting track is accompanied by a strikingly monochromatic video showcasing the band on stage. Employing simple yet dynamic zooms directed at each member, the video captures their individual essences and seemingly pays tribute to the high-contrast film technique made famous by Anton Corbijn.

“La Métamorphose” marks a bold new direction, immersing listeners in a powerful sound that brims with raw emotion and unbridled intensity. The album begins with ‘Le Crépuscule,’ setting the stage for the ensuing sonic journey. The pace quickens with the heavy-synth-infused “La Violence,” featuring vocals by Fivequestionmarks, before transitioning to the outstanding “La Mort,” an explosive post-punk masterpiece blessed by Curses – so far, one of our favorite tracks of the year.

Label head Maenad Veyl lends his talents to the fourth track, “L’Homme,” which delves into a profoundly experimental melancholy, evoking a cinematic atmosphere. This mood continues in the powerful “L’Affront,” featuring The KVB, as the album plunges further into darkness, only to reemerge with the monumental emotions of “Le Sarcasme.”

‘La Noyade‘ penetrates the mind with its guttural vocals and menacing synths, seamlessly flowing into ‘La Foule,’ which dials down the intensity while maintaining an underlying sense of dread. French project Poison Point joins forces on ‘L’Envie,’ thrusting guitars back into the spotlight for a rousing ballad that paves the way for the final piece and title track, ‘La Métamorphose.’ This grand finale brings the emotional journey full circle, leaving listeners eager to relive the experience time and time again.

Founded in 2016 by Mathis Kolkoz, Blind Delon released several EPs leading up to their first full length, Discipline (Khemia/Unknown Pleasures Records, 2019) and their subsequent follow up, Chimères (Manic Depression, 2020). Originally a three piece before the departure of guitarist Theo Fantuz, the project then focused on refining their sound and energy through alternative projects and more EPs before arranging their current lineup.
